The Partnership to End Long-Term Homelessness will be launched on Tuesday, November 23, in Washington, DC. The Conrad N. Hilton, Rockefeller, Fannie Mae and Robert Wood Johnson foundations, plus Melville Charitable Trust and Deutsche Bank will dedicate more than $30 million as a challenge to fuel a vigorous, focused national effort on homelessness and will raise another $30 million from other private funders. PEACE PRIZE: On December 3, The California Wellness Foundation will present three violence-prevention advocates with the 12th California Peace Prize in Los Angeles. The honorees each will receive a cash award of $25,000an acknowledgement of their commitment to preventing violence and promoting peace in their communities. Winners are: Zelenne Cárdenas, director of prevention services, Social Model Recovery Systems, Inc.; Patricia Giggans, executive director, Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women; and Reverend Anthony Ortiz, founder, California Youth Outreach. INTERNATIONAL EXCELLENCE: The Goldman Sachs Foundation and Asia Society announced the 2004 Prizes for Excellence in International Education. Winners, who receive $25,000 each, are: Chinese American International School, San Francisco; International School of the Americas, San Antonio, Texas, and Metropolitan Learning Center, Bloomfield, Connecticut; Michigan State University, East Lansing; Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and Office of the Governor; and GLOBE, Boulder, Colorado.
