NEWS COVERAGE

PEARSON FOUNDATION: The trustees of the E.M. Pearson Foundation in Minneapolis/St. Paul decided to close the foundation this spring, because "one generation is enough for a family foundation," according to trustee Donald Steinkraus. The trustees worked with Pearson at Deluxe Corporation before his retirement more than 30 years ago; they ran the foundation without any permanent staff. Steinkraus, 82, said he and fellow trustees Francis Cloutier and Gerald Lee, both 70, "went over quite a few people," but couldn't find prospective successors among "employees or retirees left that knew Mr. Pearson and his wishes as far as money is concerned." The trustees will give all of the foundation's assets—expected to total more than $30 million—to 68 local nonprofit organizations and eight other groups.
