It seeks to enhance understanding of organized philanthropy by grantseekers, policymakers, opinion leaders and the society at large, but it is directed primarily toward the trustees and staff of donor organizations.

CEOs - Barberton Community Foundation (OH): Thomas L. Harnden, former chairman of the grants committee, is executive director.
- Community Foundation for Southern Arizona (Tuscon): Steven Alley, former director of the Community Foundation Institute at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, was named executive director.
- Delaware Community Foundation (Wilmington): Executive Director Collis O. Townsend resigned. Deputy Director Susan D. Sherk is interim executive director.
- Albert and Mary Lasker Foundation (New York City): Neen Hunt, former executive vice president, was named president.
- Skillman Foundation (Detroit): Kari Schlachtenhaufen, interim president, was named president.
- Southern Education Foundation (Atlanta): Effective December 31, President Elridge W. McMillan will retire to become an independent consultant on education and public policy. McMillan has served the foundation since 1968. Executive Vice President Lynn Walker Huntley has been promoted to succeed McMillan, effective January 1, 2002. Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation (Meriden, CT): Stewart J. Hudson, former executive director of the Jane Goodall Institute, was named president.
- Woods Fund of Chicago: Ricardo Millett, former director of evaluation for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, was named president.
STAFF - American Association of University Women Educational Foundation (Washington, DC): Former director Karen Sloan Lebovich was named vice president of Lipman Hearne Inc.
- Boston Foundation: Terry Lane, former associate dean for professional education and sponsored projects at the Boston University School of Social Work, was named director of policy, research and evaluation.
- California Endowment (Woodland Hills): The following people were named program officers: Sylvia Castillo, former research advisor for the James Irvine Los Angeles Urban Funders Fellowship; Alicia Dixon, former director of the San Diego County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Violence and Injury Prevention; and Patricia Lozada-Santone, former faculty member of the San Diego State University's Colleges of Education, and Health and Human Services.
- Colorado Trust: John L. Samuelson, former chief financial officer at the United States Olympic Committee, was named chief financial officer. Christie McElhinney, former public relations director at the Education Commission of the States, was named senior communications officer. Jenny Lehman, former senior consultant for AddVenture Network and director of special projects for Colorado Public Radio, was named executive assistant for board affairs and special projects.
- Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham (AL): James A. King III, a former employee in the development office of the University of the South, was named development officer.
- Community Foundation Silicon Valley (CA): Director of Research and Special Initiatives Winnie Chu is retiring.
- Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan (Detroit): Kim-Lan Trinh, former finance specialist for International Finance-Asia Pacific Region for DaimlerChrysler Corp. and administrator of the Chrysler Fund, was named senior program officer. Thomas M. Woiwode, former consultant, was named director of the GreenWays Initiative. Diane M. Kresnak, former assistant controller for Focus: HOPE, was named staff accountant.
- Enterprise Foundation (Columbia, MD): Jim Polcaro, former vice president of information technology at AMERICOM Wireless Services, was named chief technology officer. Peter Werwath, a faculty member of the Affordable Housing Institute at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design, was named vice president and deputy director of program services. Ed Manekin, former interim chief administrative officer, was named chief reengineering officer.
- Hogg Foundation for Mental Health (Austin, TX): Carolyn Young, former project manager for the Texas Education Agency, was named youth development program director.
- Kresge Foundation (Troy, MI): Laura J. Trudeau, former vice president and Midwest region head of contributions and community relations for the Bank One Corporation, was named program officer.
- John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation (Chicago): Richard Kaplan, former director for grants management, research and information, was named assistant vice president for institutional research and grants management.
- Minneapolis Foundation: Ronnie Bryan, former human resources employee at North Star Steel and Cargill, was named human resources generalist. Jeryn Konezny, former nonprofit and healthcare lawyer with Dorsey & Whitney L.L.P., was named gift planning officer.
