Hernandez will succeed Jack Shakely, who is retiring after leading the foundation for 23 years. The Cameron Foundation (Petersburg, VA): Cleveland A. Wright is the first president of the new foundation. Handy L. Lindsey, Jr. is the first executive director. The Community Health Foundation of Western and Central New York (Buffalo and Syracuse): Ann F. Monroe was appointed president of the newly created foundation. The Duke Endowment (Charlotte, NC): President Elizabeth H. Locke announced her intention to retire in December 2004. Locke will be succeeded as president by Eugene W. Cochrane, Jr., currently vice president and director of the healthcare division. Cochrane will be succeeded by Mary L. Piepenbring, associate director of the division. Linwood B. Hollowell III will succeed Piepenbring. J. Porter Durham, Jr. will succeed Locke as director of the education division. The David and Lucile Packard Foundation (Los Altos, CA): On January 1, Carol S. Larson will become the third president and CEO of the foundation, succeeding Richard T. Schlosberg III, who is retiring. The Rockefeller Foundation (New York City): President Gordon Conway announced that he intends to retire in December 2004. Campbell to the new position of vice president for programs. Greg Avis, founding managing partner of Summit Partners, was elected to the board.
