CEOS

California Community Foundation (Los Angeles): Jack Shakely will retire as president in January 2004.

The Cleveland Foundation: Ronald B. (Ronn) Richard became president on July 1. Richard succeeded longtime President Steven A. Minter, who retired in June.

William T. Grant Foundation (New York City): On July 1, Karen Hein, M.D., stepped down as president. Senior Vice President Robert C. Granger succeeded Hein.

The James Irvine Foundation (San Francisco): Vice President and Corporate Secretary James E. Canales was promoted to president and CEO.

Mind Science Foundation (San Antonio): Joseph Dial was named executive director.

Omaha Community Foundation: Michael Leighton succeeded Del Weber as president July 1, when Weber retired.

Seattle Foundation: Phyllis Campbell became president and CEO July 1. Campbell succeeded Anne V. Farrell, who served as president for 19 years.

The Vermont Community Foundation (Middlebury): elected Brian T. Byrnes as its next president. Effective July 1, Byrnes succeeded founding President and CEO David Rahr, who retired in June.

York Foundation (York, PA): Susan A. Barry will join as executive director July 14.

STAFF

The Boston Foundation: Terry Saunders Lane was named vice president for program and Ruben Orduna was named vice president for development.

The Community Foundation of North Florida, Inc. (Tallahassee): Alyce Lee Stansbury joined as director of development.

The Denver Foundation: Jeff Hirota is now a program officer.

The Duke Endowment (Charlotte, NC): J. Porter Durham, Jr., was appointed to the newly created positions of staff counsel and associate director of the education division.

The Enterprise Foundation (Columbia, MD): has three new directors: Clarence Snuggs, Baltimore office; Lessie Powell Evans, Washington, DC, office; and Naomi Lopez Elliott, San Antonio, TX, office. Three senior directors were promoted to vice president and officer of the foundation: Mark McDermott, Midwest regional director; Ann Sewill, California state director; and Stockton Williams, director of public policy.

The Ford Family Foundation (Roseburg, OR): Tom Gallagher is now director of The Ford Institute for Community Building, an initiative of the foundation. John W. Sweet joined the foundation's board.

The Edwin Gould Foundation for Children (New York City): Program Officer Helen Dorado Alessi was promoted to senior program officer.

The James Irvine Foundation (San Francisco): Director of Evaluation Marty Campbell was promoted to director of program development and evaluation. Colette Clark joined the foundation as accounting manager, Susan Redfern joined as IT and web specialist and Jason Hancock joined as program associate.

Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation (Kansas City, MO): Robert Litan will join as vice president for research and policy August 1.

The Philadelphia Foundation: Kim V. Heyman is now director of grantmaking services. Also, Peggy Amsterdam, president of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance and Pamela H. Godwin, president of Change Partners, Inc., joined the board of managers. Ellen Foster, community volunteer, was named vice chair and Eric Fraint, CPA, was named treasurer.

The Spencer Foundation (Chicago): Mary J. Cahillane will join as chief financial officer in July.

Stuart Foundation (San Francisco): Teri Kook is now program officer for the strengthening the child welfare system program.

BOARD MEMBERS

The Chicago Community Trust: John A. Canning, Jr., president of Madison Dearborn Partners, Inc.; Judy Erwin, senior vice president in Res Publica Group; and Jack Greenberg, former chairman and CEO of McDonald's Corporation, joined the executive committee.

The Dibner Fund (Wilton, CT): Daniel Dibner, estate planning and investment consultant, joined the board of trustees.

The New York Regional Association of Grantmakers (New York City): elected four new directors to its board: Jacqueline Ebanks, senior director, Management Assistance Program, United Way of New York City; William Falahee, controller, J.M. Kaplan Fund; Jon Funabiki, deputy director, Media, Arts and Culture unit, Knowledge, Creativity and Freedom program, Ford Foundation; and Marilyn Gelber, executive director, Independence Community Foundation. Board officers are: Emily Tow Jackson, executive director of the Tow Foundation, as chair; Erica Hunt, executive director, The Twenty-First Century Foundation, as vice chair; Vincent Stehle, program officer for Nonprofit Sector Support, Surdna Foundation, as secretary; Kathryn Conroy, chief financial officer, New York Community Trust, as treasurer; William Falahee as assistant treasurer; and Beverley Samuda, NYRAG director of administration, as assistant secretary.

Rockwell Fund, Inc. (Houston): Three new trustees joined: Barbara W. Bellatti, former teacher, counselor and principal; Gene Graham, independent oil and gas consultant; and Margaret E. McConn, CPA.

PHILANTHROPIC ORGANIZATIONS

Council on Foundations (Washington, DC): Deputy General Counsel Janne Gallagher was promoted to vice president and general counsel. She succeeded John Edie, who left in February. Staff Attorney Andrew Schulz succeeded Gallagher as deputy general counsel. Also, Susan Price joined the Council as coordinator in family foundation services, Meredith Graham joined as staff accountant and Sarita Venkat joined corporate services as coordinator.

Grantmakers in Aging (Dayton, OH): Vickie Shortal joined as communications manager.

Center on Philanthropy (Indianapolis): Philip L. Cochran is the new Thomas W. Binford Chair in Corporate Citizenship at the center and the Indiana University Kelley School of Business Indianapolis.
