Charles and Helen Schwab Foundation (San Mateo, CA): Gale Berkowitz will lead the foundation's evaluation of the outcomes and impact of its grantmaking and operating programs. Ed Carlson will lead the substance abuse treatment initiative, while Cassandra Benjamin will head the homelessness initiative. BOARD MEMBERS Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida (Jacksonville, FL): The foundation named Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida staff to its board of directors: Bruce Bagni, Randy Kammer, Patrick McCabe, Deanna McDonald, Tony Jenkins, and Susan Wildes. Calhoun County Community Foundation (Anniston, AL): Forrest French, a retired accountant, and J.B. Freeman, an accountant and partner with Brooke, Freeman, and Lee, were appointed trustees. Carnegie Corporation of New York (New York City): Helene L. Kaplan was named chair of the board. Kaplan is counsel to Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. Martin L. Leibowitz was named board vice chair; he is vice chairman and chief investment officer of TIAA-CREF. William McDonough was named trustee; he serves as vice-chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank and a permanent member of the Federal Open Market Committee. Greater Cincinnati Foundation: The foundation appointed three new members to its governing board: Paul W. Chellgren, chairman and CEO of Ashland, Inc., Johnathan M. Holifield, executive director of CincyTechUSA and vice president of new economic enterprise at the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce and William C. (Wym) Portman III, president and CEO of Portman Equipment Company. The Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis: The foundation elected new board officers: George E. Ludwig, retired partner with Whipple & Co., president; Thomas J. Feeney, Forest Manor Middle School teacher, vice president; Robert L. North, retired CEO of North Mechanical Contracting, treasurer; and Drees Homes market manager Beverly A. Baker, secretary. Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation (Kansas City, MO): Michael F. Morrissey, retired managing partner of Ernst & Young LLP, was elected chair of the board of directors. Morrissey's term will begin in September 2002, when current board chair James E. McGraw concludes a three-year term. John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation (Chicago): Mario J. Molina, professor of chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and winner of the 1995 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, was named to the foundation's board. Markle Foundation (New York City): Joel L. Fleishman, professor of law and public policy studies and director of the Sam and Ronnie Heyman Center for Ethics, Public Policy and the Professions at Duke University, is now chairman of the board of directors. Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation (Baltimore): Maria Rosario Jackson, senior research associate and director of the Urban Institute's Arts, Culture, and Communities Program, and Janet Rodriguez, vice president for corporate and social responsibility at J.P.
